About Flail Fury

Flail Fury is an io-style physics brawler. Every fighter drags a spiked ball on a chain. Turn sharply and the ball swings out; hold whirl and it spins round you like a hammer thrower. Hit a rival’s core hard enough and it is out, scattering a shower of stars for anyone to grab.

Collect stars to lengthen your chain and grow your ball, but a bigger fighter is also an easier target. It is single-player against computer rivals and runs in your browser on desktop and mobile.

Flail Fury rules

Your flail

Your ball hangs on a chain from your core. It trails behind as you move and swings out when you turn; the chain never stretches, so the ball can come closer but never go further away.

Whirling drives the ball round you, so it quickly reaches knock-out speed, but your core moves at about 55% of its usual speed while you whirl.

Knock-outs

A ball moving at 320 or more straight into another fighter’s core knocks it out. The ball glows red while it is that fast. A slower or glancing blow just bounces off, and two balls that meet bounce off each other.

A knocked-out fighter scatters 60% of its power as big stars, which fade after 30 seconds. Your own ball never hurts you, and new fighters are shielded for 3 seconds, shown by a dashed ring.

Power

You start with 10 power. Ordinary stars add 1 each and appear somewhere else when taken. More power means a longer chain, a bigger ball and a bigger core, and a slightly slower fighter.

Fighters above 300 power slowly lose some (0.3% a second), so no one grows forever.

Rivals

Every other fighter is controlled by the computer and marked AI on the arena leaderboard. Chill has 10 rivals that mostly collect stars. Normal has 14 that circle weaker fighters and whirl. Fierce has 18 that hunt harder and dodge swinging balls. No more than two rivals hunt the same fighter at once.

A rival that is knocked out is replaced by a newcomer a few seconds later, so the arena never empties.

Best power

Your result is the most power you had during the round. The best result for each rival level is saved in this browser.

Tips and strategy

  • Circle your target rather than charging it: the ball swings round and hits from the side.
  • Whirl when a rival gets close. A spinning ball blocks theirs, and the clash bounces both away.
  • Grab the big stars a knocked-out fighter drops, before someone else does.
  • Do not whirl while you travel far: you move at half speed and are easy to catch.
  • Use the walls. A rival backed against one has nowhere to dodge.

Frequently asked questions

Is Flail Fury multiplayer?

No. Flail Fury is single-player. Every other fighter is a computer-controlled rival, marked AI on the leaderboard, and nothing is sent over the network while you play.

Is Flail Fury free?

Yes. It is free to play in your browser with no account, download or payment.

Why did my ball not knock a rival out?

It was not moving fast enough, or it only grazed the core. Wait for the red glow, and hit the core head-on. Fighters with a dashed ring have just arrived and cannot be knocked out yet.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Drag anywhere on the arena to steer, and hold the Whirl button. The game pauses automatically if you switch apps or tabs.
